THE BREAM TEAM ! Friday 15th May 2009
Colwick FFC Members Keith Prowting & Rosie Gunn have a day out at Grafham.
The day started with heavy rain and a Severe Weather warning. This did stop the intrepid pair who were keen for Keith to have a look at the water before he fishes the Troutmaster final on Monday 18th May.
We started a nice drift at Gaynes Point towards E Buoy where plenty of trout were showing and we each soon had a fish. As the fish ceased to move we explored the reservoir, going to South Corner along the Dam. Rosemary had a nice fish drifting into The Willows and we tried a number of places along North bank with no luck until Rosemary landed a beauty drifting from Savages Point into Sanctuary Bay. We both caught in Savages Creek, had pulls and lost a couple off Rainbow Point.
Getting weary we decided to complete the drift from Rainbow Point to Savages Point. We were not expecting what happened next. Just as Rosemary was saying “ I know there are fish here, I can feel it in my bones!” Keith replied – “You’re right, I am into a fish, it is solid, it will not move!” Rosemary – “ You and your big fish, a Pike? Wow! So am I - what have we got? Mine will not move either “
This went on for a while until I saw that what I had was a Bream. Keith, a seasoned coarse angler, had also caught a Bream and said it had to be his biggest ever. I had never even seen one before, so taking an approx 10lb + Bream on a small Black Buzzer was a tremendous thrill for me, particularly since Keith had the kindness to say he thought mine was larger than his! (The record to date for a Bream is 18lbs 9oz so we are well on the way!)
To catch a pair like this was unreal. Just make it a 10 lb Trout on Monday, Keith!
