On a blisteringly hot day we all set out thinking ‘fast sinkers’ and did not hold out much hope for easy fishing - if any fish at all! 10 of us fished along with Kirby FFC.
Yes - the preferred method was fast sinking and several people gave into back drifting with a short leader and booby. That said, Tom Morton came away with a smashing fish weighing 6lb 3oz caught in the nick of time at the end of the day on a stick fly, floating line with approx. 12+ft leader. Rob had a nice 4lb 15oz fish caught on a sinker, Black & Green Montaddy while anchored, and Rosemary had a 4lb 11oz on a Gold Booby drifting. Well done to John Middleton winning overall.
Fish were moving on and off all day all over the reservoir; however they were hard to catch and many of us experienced pulls and there were quite a few lost fish.
We welcomed guest Joanne Roe, her first day boat fishing. She came away with two and had several pulls and a couple of lost fish, most falling for an Orange Blob on an intermediate. Well done Joanne.
Pints were well earned went down well at The Bricklayers Pub at the end of the day!
